Call It What It Is

Re: the events of January 6th, 2021 at the United States Capitol building:

As a collective that aspires to be trauma-informed care providers we know that directly naming trauma and abusive power dynamics specifically is critical to any form of healing. What is happening right now in the United States capitol is not protest. It is not a minority demanding their full human rights. It is white supremacists who have historically wielded state sanctioned violence to dominate and control black and brown bodies, people, doing just that. It is the exercise of white privilege wielded against democracy.

It is abuse. It is criminal. It is trauma.
